TfL proposes scrapping 415 bus route in south London

Transport for London (TfL) has launched a public consultation on plans to withdraw the 415 bus service, which connects Old Kent Road with Tulse Hill in south London. The proposal would see the 333 route extended to replace part of the service.

The 415 currently runs between Old Kent Road Tesco and Tulse Hill station, serving Elephant and Castle, Kennington, Oval and Brixton along the way. Under the plans, the 333 would be extended from its existing terminus at Elephant and Castle to Old Kent Road Tesco, following the northern section of the 415’s current route.

New direct links proposed

The extended 333 would create new direct links between Old Kent Road, Elephant and Castle, Stockwell, Streatham and Tooting Broadway. However, passengers travelling between Old Kent Road and Brixton or Tulse Hill would lose their direct service.

Some journeys between Kennington, Oval and Tulse Hill would also require passengers to change buses at Elephant and Castle or Brixton. TfL said passenger demand on the 415 had fallen significantly since the Covid pandemic.

Spare capacity on other routes

The transport body said other services, particularly the 2 and 432, had enough spare capacity to accommodate people affected by the proposed withdrawal. TfL also said extending the 333 would simplify the bus network while maintaining key connections.

The consultation opened on Monday, October 5, and will close on Sunday, November 15. Members of the public can take part online at haveyoursay.tfl.gov.uk/routes-415-333-changes.
