BTP seeks man after DLR passenger holding baby bitten

British Transport Police (BTP) have released a CCTV image of a man they want to speak to after a passenger holding a baby was allegedly bitten and assaulted on a Docklands Light Railway (DLR) train in south east London. The incident occurred at around 5.30pm on Saturday, September 5, as the family travelled between Maze Hill and Woolwich Arsenal.

Assault on DLR train between Maze Hill and Woolwich Arsenal

The family were seated on the DLR train when they were confronted by the man. According to BTP, the suspect "became aggressive before assaulting and biting a man who was holding a baby in his arms." Other family members who tried to intervene were also assaulted during the incident.

The suspect fled from Woolwich Arsenal station after the attack. Police have not provided any further description of the man, including his height or build.

CCTV image released to identify suspect

The CCTV image released by BTP shows a man wearing a cream and black t-shirt under a black coat. Officers are urging anyone who recognises him to come forward.

A spokesperson for BTP said: "Anyone who recognises the man is asked to contact British Transport Police by texting 61016 or by calling 0800 40 50 40, quoting reference 581 of 5 September."

How to provide information

Information can also be given to Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111. The appeal follows the assault, which took place on a service in the Woolwich area, and police are treating the matter seriously due to the presence of a baby and the involvement of multiple family members.

The investigation is ongoing, and BTP is relying on public assistance to identify the man in the CCTV image.
