Harry Potter Christmas Lights Coming to Oxford Street

Oxford Street will receive a Harry Potter-themed Christmas takeover starting November 4, 2026, coinciding with the opening of a new flagship shop and the premiere of the HBO television series. The transformation, described as “spellbinding” by organizers, will run alongside the street’s traditional festive lights.

Harry Potter Takeover Details and Shop Location

The New West End Company, which manages the business improvement district for the area, confirmed the partnership but has not yet revealed full details of the activities and designs. The makeover will feature on Europe’s busiest shopping street, which typically attracts millions of visitors during the holiday season.

The new flagship store is located at The Ribbon, 134–140 Oxford Street, near Tottenham Court Road station. The two-floor retail space spans over 21,000 square feet and is inspired by Diagon Alley, featuring a towering Ukrainian Ironbelly dragon above a Gringotts area and a full-sized triple-decker Knight Bus.

Official Statements and Financial Terms

Dee Corsi, CEO of the New West End Company, said: “This will be a historic moment for Oxford Street. The arrival of Harry Potter to the street will create an unforgettable experience and showcase the West End at its very best. It is an exciting milestone and a magical moment for shoppers, visitors and fans alike.”

The financial terms of the deal with the New West End Company have not been confirmed, nor has the potential benefit for Sir Sadiq Khan’s Mayoral Development Corporation. Just days before the Harry Potter partnership begins, Oxford Street will become car-free on Monday, October 26.

Business leaders are expected to confirm the official Christmas lights switch-on date in the coming weeks.

HBO Series and Cast

The new HBO series is a television adaptation of J.K. Rowling’s seven Harry Potter books. The first season, titled Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone, is due to premiere on December 25, 2026, on HBO and Max. It will consist of eight episodes.

Production began at Warner Bros. Studios Leavesden in England in 2025. The cast includes Dominic McLaughlin as Harry Potter, Arabella Stanton as Hermione Granger, Alastair Stout as Ron Weasley, John Lithgow as Albus Dumbledore, Janet McTeer as Minerva McGonagall, Paapa Essiedu as Severus Snape, and Nick Frost as Rubeus Hagrid.

A second season adapting Chamber of Secrets has already been green-lit, featuring Kit Harington as Gilderoy Lockhart. The series is planned as a faithful, book-first adaptation spanning 10 years, with each season dedicated to a single novel from Rowling’s series.
