Night Tube marks 10 years with record New Year's Eve and Halloween demand
Night Tube marks 10 years with record demand on key dates

Transport for London (TfL) data reveals that New Year's Eve is consistently the busiest night for the Night Tube, with Halloween 2025 also seeing a surge. On October 31, 2025, the service recorded 123,000 journeys, more than double the average Friday evening. The figures come as TfL celebrates a decade of the Night Tube, which has become an integral part of the capital's £139 billion night-time economy.

Festive spikes and major events drive record numbers

For the past three years, the first weekend in December has seen significant spikes in Night Tube passenger numbers. Over the weekend of December 1-2, 2023, there were 174,000 journeys; the same weekend in 2024 saw 191,000 journeys; and in 2025, there were 171,000 journeys. These festive peaks highlight the service's role in supporting Christmas shopping and socialising.

Other notable spikes include the Anthony Joshua vs Daniel Dubois boxing match on September 21, 2024, which saw 85,000 journeys, and the England vs Norway World Cup match on July 11, 2026, which saw 170,000 journeys—a 124% increase from the baseline of 76,000. Halloween 2025, falling on a Friday, saw a 112% increase from the baseline of 58,000 journeys.

Night Tube's impact on London's night-time economy and workforce

The Night Tube is particularly vital for London's night-time workforce, with approximately 1.3 million people working at night in the capital. The service has also made London more accessible after dark, reducing average journey times by about 20 minutes, with some journeys cut by more than an hour.

To mark the 10th anniversary, TfL has unveiled a special commemorative poster. Customers can enter three competitions to win prizes, including a Tube-themed party for up to six people at Cahoots bar, featuring live music, DJ entertainment, and money for food and drink. There are also three pairs of tickets to a late-night performance at Ronnie Scott's jazz club, and five people can win copies of the new Night Tube poster via a Metro competition.

Mayor Sadiq Khan praises the Night Tube's decade of service

Mayor of London Sadiq Khan said: "Travelling on the first-ever Night Tube is one of my favourite memories as Mayor. Through a decade of late nights and early starts, airport journeys and epic trips, morning shifts and nights out that go on for as long as you like, the Night Tube has become a defining feature of London as a world-leading 24/7 city."

Khan added: "Helping people travel safely and affordably at all hours provides a vital boost for our night-time economy, supporting local businesses across the capital and keeping London moving around the clock. With more than 67 million journeys clocked up already and many more to come, the Night Tube gives Londoners and visitors even more reasons to get out and enjoy everything our great city has to offer."

He concluded: "I'm incredibly proud that the capital is home to this world-leading service and I look forward to seeing the Night Tube continue to unlock economic benefits and open up new opportunities as we build a better London for everyone."

The data underscores the Night Tube's role in supporting major events and the night-time economy, with TfL continuing to promote the service through anniversary celebrations.
