A person has died after falling on the tracks at Sloane Square Underground station in Chelsea during the morning rush hour on Wednesday, August 19. Emergency services were called to the scene shortly before 7.45am following reports of a casualty on the line.
Incident details and emergency response
The injured person was pronounced dead at the scene, according to the British Transport Police (BTP). Their age and gender have not yet been released. Paramedics attended alongside officers, but the individual could not be saved.
BTP officers were called to the line near Sloane Square station at 7.44am. In a statement, the force said: "Officers were called to the line near Sloane Square Underground station at 7.44am today (19 August) following reports of a casualty on the tracks. Paramedics also attended, however sadly a person was pronounced dead at the scene. Enquiries are ongoing into the circumstances leading up to their death."
Transport disruption and travel advice
Transport for London (TfL) has suspended the entire Circle line while emergency crews deal with the incident. There is also no District line service between Earl's Court and Whitechapel, with severe delays on the rest of the line. Passengers are being urged to avoid the line where possible.
Westbound Hammersmith and City line trains were initially unable to run between Edgware Road and Barking, but are now operating with severe delays. TfL is accepting tickets on London Buses, the DLR, Elizabeth line, Liberty line, C2C, and South Western Railway to help passengers complete their journeys.
Ongoing investigation
