The Metropolitan Police carried out a controlled explosion on a car left outside King's Cross St Pancras station on Tuesday afternoon, causing significant disruption to rail services and prompting a full evacuation of the transport hub.
The unattended vehicle was reported to police, leading to a large emergency response. Officers cordoned off the surrounding roads and evacuated the station as a precaution. The controlled explosion was audible to passers-by in the area, according to witnesses.
Vehicle Declared Non-Suspicious
Following the explosion, the Met Police confirmed that the vehicle had been declared non-suspicious. Customers were subsequently told it was safe to re-enter the station after the evacuation was lifted.
The incident caused delays to Eurostar departures, with some trains pushed back by at least 30 minutes. East Midlands Railway (EMR) also reported significant disruption across its network, affecting routes between St Pancras and Corby, Leicester, Derby, and Sheffield.
Traffic Disruption on Pancras Road
Traffic was partially blocked and building on Pancras Road in both directions as a result of the incident. Emergency services remained on scene for some time to manage the aftermath.
The Met Police have not released further details about the vehicle or the circumstances leading to the alert. The station has since resumed normal operations, but passengers were advised to check with their rail operators for any residual delays.
