Russell Brand Confesses to Past Relationship with 16-Year-Old, Calls It 'Exploitative'

Russell Brand has publicly acknowledged having a sexual relationship with a 16-year-old girl when he was 30 years old, describing his past conduct as 'selfish' and 'exploitative'. The comedian and actor made these admissions during a recent podcast appearance while simultaneously facing seven criminal charges including rape and sexual assault, all of which he vehemently denies.

Podcast Revelations and Legal Context

During an appearance on The Megyn Kelly Show on Wednesday, April 22, the 50-year-old entertainer confirmed he had sexual relations with a teenager when he was three decades old. 'I did sleep with a 16-year-old when I was 30,' Brand stated, while emphasizing the encounter was both consensual and lawful under United Kingdom law where the age of consent is 16.

The actor reflected on his younger self, describing himself as 'a very different person back then' and 'an immature 30 year old.' Despite the legal permissibility, Brand took ownership of what he now views as problematic behavior, admitting he took advantage of a 'strong power differential' for his personal gratification.

Criminal Charges and Allegations

Brand currently faces seven criminal charges in the UK, including:

  • Three counts of rape
  • Three charges of sexual assault
  • One allegation of indecent assault

Six women have come forward with allegations dating from 1999 to 2009. Among the accusers is a woman identified as 'Alice' who claims Brand began a three-month sexual relationship with her in 2006 while she was still attending school. She alleges he referred to her as 'the child' and arranged for transportation to pick her up from school during lessons.

Alice reportedly contacted Brand's agent in 2020 to report the behavior. The actor has pleaded not guilty to all charges as of February 2026, with his trial scheduled to begin on October 12, 2026. A two-day pre-trial hearing has been set for June 16 and 17.

Brand's Response and Recent Activities

In September 2023, Brand posted a video online 'absolutely' denying all allegations against him, insisting all his relationships had been 'absolutely, always consensual.' Months before his expected court appearance, the comedian released a new spiritual memoir titled 'How to Become a Christian in 7 Days,' which describes his 'radical conversion to Christianity' against a backdrop of what he calls 'false allegations.'

The book's synopsis references his son's heart surgery and what Brand characterizes as 'truly jaw-dropping spiritual warfare.' Despite these personal developments and spiritual transformation, the serious legal allegations continue to shadow his public life and career.
