A heavy metal concert in Dunedin, New Zealand, descended into chaos on Saturday night when a concertgoer defecated in the mosh pit, causing multiple attendees to vomit and forcing the show to a halt.
Incident at Devilskin Gig
The incident occurred during a performance by New Zealand band Devilskin at the Union Hall. According to witnesses, the band was only a few songs into their set when the foul smell and discovery of feces on the dancefloor brought proceedings to a standstill.
Footage posted on social media shows lead singer Jennie Skulander reacting on stage, exclaiming, 'Poo! Ew!' after learning what had happened.
Witness Accounts
Damian Radburnd, a concertgoer, told Stuff that his fiancée smelled the feces before they realized what had happened. 'The guy who was directly in front of me proceeded to shake a log down his leg,' Radburnd said. He watched the man try to kick it away before stepping in it. Radburnd alerted security, who verified the culprit and the mess on the floor.
Another witness, speaking to the Otago Daily Times, described the scene: 'It was a rock and metal concert, so there was a lot of jumping. And then eventually someone must have looked down and noticed that there was just a huge mess of s**t, completely spread all in the mosh pit, all over the floor.' The witness added that the feces was on people's feet and legs, and one girl vomited on it, triggering others to vomit as well.
Aftermath and Cleanup
The concert was paused while staff cleaned up the mess. Attendees in the foyer were reportedly in hysterics, with one woman described as having vomit in her hair and feces on her legs, crying uncontrollably. When the gig resumed, a large empty circle remained near the stage as fans avoided the area.
The Otago University Students' Association (OUSA), which operates the venue, described the event as 'an unfortunate medical incident.' OUSA president Daniel Leamy told Stuff that the individual remained fully clothed and was willingly escorted from the venue by security. Police confirmed no arrests were made.
Band's Response
Devilskin later posted a humorous mock advertisement on Instagram for a 'Diaper of Doom,' a specially made concert nappy promising to be leak-proof with an odor filter, referencing the incident.
