British Transport Police have launched a public appeal to identify two individuals following a disturbing incident of racial abuse and assault at Bond Street Tube station in central London.
Details of the Assault
The attack occurred at approximately 7:30pm on Saturday 11 October. A woman was entering the station with her sister and her two young children, one of whom was in a pushchair. According to police, a man and woman walking in front of the family collided with the pushchair.
The situation escalated rapidly when the man allegedly began shouting racial abuse at the victim and her family. The woman accompanying him then physically assaulted the victim by grabbing her hair.
Alleged Use of Pepper Spray
When the victim tried to defend herself, the man reportedly produced a small bottle. He claimed it contained pepper spray and then sprayed the substance in the direction of the woman and her family.
Fortunately, the victims reported suffering no ill effects from the spray. Police are still working to confirm the exact nature of the substance used. Following the attack, the female suspect continued to shout abuse and make lewd gestures before both parties left the area.
