Maninder Singh Brar, 28, has pleaded guilty to two counts of manslaughter following a fatal collision on the M4 in West London that killed a couple and left another man injured. The crash occurred on Monday, 1 June, at 11.37pm on the M4 westbound at Junction 4, Hillingdon.
Details of the incident
Police received reports of a serious collision involving a black BMW 320i driven by Brar and a white VW Golf. The BMW collided with the Golf, leaving its occupants severely injured. Brar fled the scene after the crash. Mohammad Hagila, 63, died at the scene. His wife, Dil Jan Hagila, 62, was taken to hospital in a life-threatening condition and died on Saturday, June 6. A third person, a 29-year-old man, was also taken to hospital with injuries that were not life-threatening.
Guilty plea and charges
Brar, of Minterne Way, Hayes, was arrested on June 6 and remanded in custody. He appeared at Isleworth Crown Court on Wednesday, July 15, where he pleaded guilty to two counts of manslaughter, two counts of causing death whilst uninsured, causing serious injury by dangerous driving, handling stolen goods, and failing to stop following a road traffic collision. Sentencing is scheduled for Wednesday, August 23 at the same court.

Acting Detective Inspector Fiaz Janjua, who led the Met’s investigation, said: “This is a truly tragic case in which two innocent members of the public have lost their lives. The fact Brar has now pleaded guilty to two counts of manslaughter reflects the seriousness of his actions and the devastating consequences they had for those involved. This case serves as a reminder of the severe consequences that dangerous driving can have and the profound, lasting harm it can cause to innocent road users, their families and the wider community.”
