Fly-tippers caught after boasting 'This is London baby' on Instagram

Four men have been prosecuted and fined after filming themselves illegally dumping rubbish in Harrow and posting the video on Instagram with mocking captions including 'this is London baby'.

Social media boasting leads to swift justice

The group of four men dumped domestic waste including a toddler's highchair and a baby walker behind commercial bins on Crane Close in Harrow on June 3 last year. They then posted video evidence of their crime to Instagram, accompanied by the captions 'this is London baby' and 'how to manage extra dustbins'.

Harrow Council's enforcement officers spotted the video and visited the offenders' address the very next day. When officers knocked on the door, one of the men answered and immediately admitted his involvement in the fly-tipping incident, even handing over his identification on the spot.

Court convictions and substantial fines

All four men subsequently admitted to the offence during interviews. The case proceeded to Willesden Magistrates' Court where Darvin Nitinbhai Sherathiya, Mihirkumar Rajanikant Prajapati, Hitendrasinh Dilipsinh Padhiyar and Adarsh Jayantibhai Mourya were each ordered to pay £469, totalling £1,876 collectively.

The council is now formally referring these convictions to the UK Home Office for consideration, following standard procedures relating to criminal convictions.

Council sends strong message to offenders

Councillor Pritesh Patel, Cabinet Member for Cleaner Streets and Public Safety at Harrow Council, condemned the offenders' actions: 'These four fly-tippers thought they could mock Harrow and the law by dumping waste illegally and filming it for entertainment - as if it was something to brag about. Thanks to the quick work by our officers, and also the suspects' broadcasting their crime, we found them and took them to court.'

'Fly-tipping isn't just disgusting, it's criminal and costs the taxpayer to clear. Thanks to CCTV and dedicated officers, we are finding and fining offenders who think they can leave their mess for others to clean up. I hope this case sends a strong message to others - we will find you and fine you.'

Ongoing crackdown on environmental crime

This prosecution forms part of a wider crackdown on fly-tipping across London. Over the last four years, Harrow Council has issued more than 4,000 fines for fly-tipping offences, with numerous other prosecutions currently ongoing against those who dump waste illegally on the borough's streets.

The council encourages residents to report any instances of fly-tipping or other environmental offences via their official website, emphasising that community vigilance combined with council enforcement creates a powerful deterrent against such criminal behaviour.
