London's 24-Hour Rain Warning: Flooding and Travel Chaos Forecast
London 24-hour weather warning for heavy rain

The Met Office has issued a severe weather alert for the capital, warning Londoners to brace for a full day of disruptive downpours.

When and Where the Deluge Will Hit

The yellow weather warning for heavy and prolonged rain is active from 6am on Friday, November 14, until 6am on Saturday, November 15. This 24-hour period is expected to bring significant rainfall that could lead to localised flooding across parts of the city.

The adverse weather is not confined to London. The warning zone stretches deep into the West Country and Wales, extending northwards almost as far as Manchester and ending in northern Kent to the south.

Potential Impacts and Public Advice

Meteorologists have highlighted several potential risks associated with the incoming weather system. There is a possibility of power cuts, flood damage to properties, and difficult driving conditions due to spray and standing water on the roads.

Residents planning to travel on Saturday morning are advised to be prepared for potential disruption and to consider packing waterproof footwear.

A Glimmer of Hope and a Frosty Future

Fortunately, the forecast improves markedly once the rain clears on Saturday morning. The outlook for Sunday, Monday, and Tuesday (November 16-18) suggests a low chance of rain with temperatures ranging between 8C and 12C.

However, the Met Office stresses that this forecast remains changeable and cannot guarantee completely dry days.

Looking further ahead, London might be in for an early taste of winter. Weather models from WX Charts and the BBC indicate a chance of sleet or snowfall in the early hours of Thursday, November 20, with temperatures potentially plunging to a chilly 2C.
