The woman who revealed herself as Freddie Mercury's long-lost daughter has died at the age of 48 following a battle with a rare form of cancer.
A Peaceful End After a Long Illness
Bibi, who was previously known only as 'B', passed away after being diagnosed with chordoma, a rare spinal cancer. Her death was confirmed by her widower, Thomas, in a statement to the Daily Mail.
She died peacefully after a long battle with the disease, leaving behind two young sons aged nine and seven. The statement added that her ashes were scattered to the wind over the Alps, noting: 'B is now with her beloved and loving father in the world of thoughts.'
Revelation and a Quest for Truth
Bibi's existence was first brought to public attention by author Lesley-Ann Jones in her book, Love, Freddie. In May 2025, Bibi herself came forward, stating she had taken a DNA test to confirm her paternity. This followed allegations made 34 years after the Queen frontman's death that he had fathered a child after a brief relationship with a friend's wife.
Author Lesley-Ann Jones, who became a close friend, said she was 'devastated' by the loss. She stated that Bibi's aim in coming forward was selfless: 'to brush aside all those who have had free rein with Freddie's story for 32 years, to challenge their lies and their rewriting of his life, and to deliver the truth.'
In an emotional statement penned in August last year, Bibi spoke of the difficulty of her situation. 'I didn't want to share my Dad with the whole world,' she wrote. She described mourning her father privately while the world mourned the rock star, Freddie Mercury, saying, 'When you are 15 years old, it's not easy.'
Denials and Ongoing Mystery
These claims have been firmly denied by Mercury's close friend and former fiancée, Mary Austin. The 74-year-old, who inherited the bulk of Mercury's estate, has stated she has no knowledge of any child.
'The truth is that I am simply not the guardian of such a secret,' Austin said. 'I've never known of any child, or of any diaries. If Freddie had indeed had a child without me knowing anything about it, that would be astonishing to me.'
Freddie Mercury died in 1991 at the age of 45 from complications arising from AIDS. The revelation of a potential heir and her subsequent tragic death adds a poignant and contested new chapter to the legendary singer's legacy.
