Curzon Chelsea Reopening: First Look at Revamped Cinema

London's historic Curzon Chelsea is set to reopen this autumn, offering a first look at the brand new venue on King's Road. The three-screen cinema, part of a major redevelopment, preserves its iconic Art Deco façade while transforming the 20,000 sq ft interior into a multi-purpose creative hub.

A New Vision for Movie-Going

The cinema will feature a 300-seat main auditorium, a space for large gatherings and live programming, two studio spaces for podcasts, writers' rooms, and experimental screenings, a video and audio recording studio, as well as a bar, café, and creative special space. Curzon CEO Philip Knatchbull described the venue as a place where audiences can move fluidly between formats, including film, audio, and live events, for a truly immersive experience.

Supporting Creative Talent

Knatchbull added that Curzon Chelsea is designed to support a generation of creatives whose work spans platforms, from film to audio, digital content, and live formats. 'We're excited to return to such an historic location with a new flagship that will actively promote the creation and exhibition of the very best of British and international art and culture,' he said.

Design and Heritage

Designed by Takero Shimazaki Architects, who also designed Curzon Bloomsbury and Curzon Camden, the new-look Curzon is part of The Gaumont development, which aims to celebrate Chelsea's cultural heritage and enhance its thriving creative scene. Originally opened as the Gaumont Palace in 1934, Curzon Chelsea was shuttered in 2018 and demolished a year later.

Look out for more news of an opening date later in the summer.
