Troy Deeney has selected four Arsenal players in his Premier League team of the week for BBC Sport, following the Gunners' 2-1 victory over Chelsea on Sunday. Among them, he lauded goalkeeper David Raya as the 'best goalkeeper in the Premier League' after a decisive late save.
Arsenal maintain perfect start with comeback win
Mikel Arteta's defending champions extended their flawless start to the new season with a comeback win at the Emirates Stadium. Chelsea took an early lead through Morgan Rogers, but Arsenal responded with goals from Kai Havertz and Martin Odegaard to secure all three points.
The result means only Arsenal and Manchester City have perfect records after three games, while Chelsea suffered their first defeat of the season. The win also keeps Arsenal atop the early league standings as they gear up for their Champions League opener.
Deeney hails Raya and Konsa after Chelsea display
Deeney praised Raya for his crucial stop to deny Estevao a late equaliser, saying: 'Huge saves, again. It's why he's the best goalkeeper in the league. He keeps just coming up with big moments.'
Summer signing Ezri Konsa also earned a spot in Deeney's XI after a 'solid performance' alongside Gabriel, with Chelsea's attacking trio kept relatively quiet. Deeney noted: 'He comes in again and just makes that massive tackle on Morgan Rogers. I think he slots into what is an already incredible Arsenal team. I can see a position now that they just can't live without him, he'll have to play right-back when everybody comes fit and available.'
Odegaard and Havertz earn plaudits
Odegaard continued his impressive start with another goal, prompting Deeney to remark: 'Captain, leader and a massive winner. It's just one of those moments where you just think, how did they talk about getting rid of Odegaard? It's scary.'
On Havertz, who has been a key figure up front, Deeney added: 'The best striker for Arsenal, hands down. They keep telling us that Gyokeres will come good, but Havertz is their best striker. He proves it week in, week out. He's the best footballer they've got, and also their best finisher.'
Arteta praises 'incredible' performance
After the match, Arteta described his team's display as 'incredible', saying: 'It wasn't the right start but we certainly reacted in an amazing way. I enjoyed the way we competed; we took risks, it was a joy to watch and an incredible game.'
He also praised Odegaard's form: 'I think he is enjoying his football. His personal life is settled, he is available, he is training. He has his routine and if he is intelligent, he can take a lot of benefits from the players around him. I think he was outstanding today.'
Arsenal return to action on Wednesday, starting their Champions League campaign against Napoli.
