The British Museum has announced ticket prices for its highly anticipated Bayeux Tapestry exhibition, set to open this summer. The landmark display will feature the historic embroidered cloth, which documents the Battle of Hastings and the Norman Conquest of England in 1066. This marks the first time the tapestry has returned to the UK since its creation nearly a millennium ago.
Ticket Prices and Categories
Peak adult entry will cost £33, making it one of the pricier London exhibitions. Off-peak adult tickets are available at £27. Under-16s can enter for free when accompanied by an adult. ArtFund National Art Pass holders can purchase tickets for £16.50. Additionally, train-style Super Off Peak tickets will be offered at £25 for the last slot of each weekday.
Tickets go on sale on Wednesday, July 1, with museum members able to reserve their spot in advance from Tuesday, June 16. The exhibition will run from Thursday, September 10, 2026, until July 11, 2027.
Exhibition Experience
The display will not only feature the tapestry itself but also include digital elements designed to bring the story to life. Additional items, such as silver pennies from the Chew Valley Hoard, will be on show. The museum will be transformed into a medieval forest to enhance the immersive experience.
Despite the higher ticket prices, the exhibition is expected to draw large crowds, similar to previous blockbuster events at the British Museum, such as the Tutankhamun exhibition in 1972 and the Terracotta Army display in 2007.
Comparison to Normandy Visit
Visiting the tapestry in its usual home in Normandy, France, would involve ferry costs and museum entry fees, making the London exhibition a more convenient option for UK residents. The tapestry's absence from Normandy will allow for a major renovation of its purpose-built museum there.
For those seeking a more affordable visit, the Super Off Peak tickets offer a budget-friendly option, while the free entry for under-16s makes it accessible for families.
