Former Little Mix Star Jesy Nelson Issues Urgent Appeal After Vehicle Theft
Former Little Mix singer Jesy Nelson has made a desperate public appeal for assistance after her car was stolen from her driveway in the early hours of the morning. The vehicle contained crucial hospital equipment required for the treatment of her twin daughters, who have been diagnosed with spinal muscular atrophy (SMA).
Vital Medical Equipment Missing
The 34-year-old entertainer took to Instagram to plead for help locating the black Defender with registration plate JJ73SSY. Nelson emphasized the urgency of the situation, stating she had "so much of my girls' hospital equipment in that car that's really needed." The twins, Ocean Jade and Story Monroe Nelson, suffer from the rare genetic condition that causes progressive muscle wastage and weakness.
Substantial Reward Offered
In subsequent social media posts, Nelson revealed she is offering a £10,000 reward for information leading to the recovery of the vehicle. The car was reportedly stolen from her Brentwood, Essex residence and was last captured on camera in Chelmsford at approximately 3am. Essex Police have been notified about the incident and are investigating the theft.
Background of Nelson's Advocacy Work
This distressing event follows Nelson's recent announcement expressing pride that SMA screenings will be implemented earlier than originally planned across the United Kingdom. The screenings, which will now begin in October 2026 instead of January 2027, represent a significant victory for the singer's advocacy efforts.
Following her daughters' diagnosis, Nelson launched a petition calling for SMA to be included in the newborn blood spot screening test, commonly known as the heel-prick test. The petition has gathered remarkable support, amassing over 100,000 signatures from concerned citizens.
Political Engagement and Charity Work
Nelson's activism has extended to high-level political engagement. In January, she met with Health Secretary Wes Streeting to discuss the life-changing impact early detection could have had on her twins' prognosis. The singer has also become a patron of the charity SMA UK, further cementing her commitment to raising awareness about the condition.
In a previous interview, Nelson revealed that her daughters' diagnosis means they are "unlikely to ever be able to walk or regain their neck strength." According to NHS information, SMA causes multiple serious symptoms including:
- Muscle weakness and movement problems
- Breathing and swallowing difficulties
- Muscle tremors
- Bone and joint complications
Personal Health Challenges Documented
Nelson's journey has included significant personal health challenges beyond her daughters' condition. During her pregnancy, she experienced twin-to-twin transfusion syndrome (TTTS), a serious condition caused by abnormal blood vessel connections in the placenta that creates imbalanced blood flow between twins.
These pregnancy struggles were documented in "Jesy Nelson: Life After Little Mix," a six-part documentary series available on Prime Video. Reflecting on her advocacy work, Nelson told the Press Association earlier this year: "It has caused a lot of commotion and it's been amazing because the SMA community have been screaming and shouting about this for years, and it's never been taken seriously."
The theft of the vehicle containing essential medical equipment represents a serious setback for the family as they manage the ongoing care requirements for the twins. The public appeal and substantial reward underscore the critical nature of the missing medical supplies for the children's wellbeing.
