A person has died following a rush hour incident on the tracks at Highgate Underground station in North London this morning (July 29). Emergency services were called to the station at approximately 8am after reports of a casualty on the tracks.
Details of the Incident
The injured person was pronounced dead at the scene, according to a statement from the British Transport Police (BTP). The age and gender of the deceased have not been released. Officers are not treating the incident as suspicious and will prepare a file for the coroner ahead of an inquest.
Impact on Transport
Transport for London (TfL) suspended the Northern line between High Barnet and Archway while the scene was managed. As of late morning, there remains no service between East Finchley and Archway, with minor delays on the rest of the line. Tickets are being accepted on local bus routes.
A BTP spokesperson said: "We were called at around 8am this morning to Highgate Underground station following reports of a casualty on the tracks. Officers responded with paramedics, however, sadly, a person was pronounced dead at the scene. The incident is not being treated as suspicious, and a file will be prepared for the coroner."
