Transport for London (TfL) has confirmed severe disruption for passengers heading to Heathrow Airport on the first weekend of August. Trains will not run between the airport and Cockfosters on both Saturday and Sunday due to ongoing upgrade works on the Piccadilly line. The Night Tube on Friday and Saturday is also suspended for the same reason. Rail replacement buses will operate, TfL said.
Piccadilly line closures
On Friday, July 31, there is no service between Cockfosters and Uxbridge due to line upgrades. The entire line is closed during Friday Night Tube. On Saturday, August 1, and Sunday, August 2, no service runs from Cockfosters to Heathrow Airport, including during Saturday Night Tube. Until late 2026, westbound trains will not stop at Barons Court due to staircase and canopy improvement work.
Overground line closures
Network Rail maintenance work will shut sections of the Lioness, Mildmay, and Windrush lines on Sunday, August 2. On the Lioness line, no service runs from Euston to Kilburn High Road until 12pm and after 8.30pm. On the Mildmay line, no service runs from Camden Road to Stratford after 10.15pm. On the Windrush line, no service runs from Wandsworth Road to Clapham Junction; trains will call at Battersea Park instead.
District line and DLR
Until late 2026, westbound District line trains will not stop at Barons Court due to improvement work. On Sunday, August 2, there is no DLR service from Tower Gateway to Shadwell due to third party works.
Charing Cross and Waterloo East closures
Charing Cross and Waterloo East stations remain closed until mid-August for major track renewal. Engineers are replacing 1,800 metres of aging track, rebuilding platform foundations and surfaces, improving drainage, and completing repairs on the Hungerford Bridge. Southeastern trains are being rerouted to Victoria, Cannon Street, and Blackfriars, with other services terminating at London Bridge.
How each rail route is affected
Hayes line: Trains to and from Hayes via Lewisham run to and from London Bridge. Other trains divert to London Blackfriars, calling at Lewisham and Elephant & Castle.
Grove Park line: Services between Charing Cross and Orpington or Sevenoaks start and terminate at London Bridge. Some trains divert via Lewisham. Cannon Street trains to Orpington continue, but a small number of peak-time trains are cancelled.
Bromley South line: Victoria to Orpington trains run every 30 minutes instead of 15. Peak-time trains between Blackfriars and Beckenham Junction continue at revised times.
Maidstone East line: Trains normally running to Charing Cross operate to London Victoria instead, calling at Bromley South. Other Victoria trains continue at different times.
Hastings line: Trains to and from Hastings run between London Bridge and Hastings, with some peak trains to London Cannon Street. Trains starting at Tunbridge Wells divert to London Victoria, calling at Bromley South.
Paddock Wood line: Trains run between London Bridge and Dover Priory or Ramsgate via Ashford International, with some peak trains to Cannon Street.
Bexleyheath line: Trains continue between Cannon Street and Barnehurst and between Victoria and Gravesend, with some changes. Cannon Street trains run in the morning peak.
Sidcup line: Trains starting at Gravesend run to London Bridge, calling at Lewisham. Trains starting at Dartford are replaced by off-peak services between Dartford and Cannon Street via Sidcup (not calling at Lewisham).
Woolwich line: Trains continue into Cannon Street with revised times, especially in the morning peak. A small number of peak trains are retimed, cancelled, or diverted via Blackheath instead of Greenwich.
