Passengers on a London Underground train were trapped for 90 minutes after a trespasser jumped onto the track, causing services to halt. The incident occurred on Tuesday, July 28, at around 11:15 pm, as crowds were heading home from a Bruno Mars concert at Wembley Stadium. The Metropolitan line train eventually reached Finchley Road station at 12:45 am.
Heat exhaustion and delays
According to a social media post from the parent of an affected concertgoer, many Tube passengers suffered heat exhaustion during the ordeal. Others were left stranded in London after missing their connecting trains home. TikTok videos show the driver reassuring passengers, saying, "I want to go home, just like you guys do," and passengers slumped on the floor while waiting for the train to move.
Emergency response
Transport for London (TfL) workers switched off the traction current on the track while emergency services removed the trespasser. Most passengers had attended the last of Bruno Mars' five shows at Wembley on his 'Romantic Tour'. A TfL spokesperson said: “We apologise to Metropolitan line customers for the disruption to their journeys following the Bruno Mars concert on Tuesday evening. This was caused by a trespasser on the line, which meant the traction current had to be switched off while the emergency services worked to remove the individual involved.”
