Transport for London is making significant strides in improving passenger facilities across the capital's transport network with a major toilet installation program. The initiative, part of TfL's broader £15 million scheme to enhance accessibility, has recently seen new facilities open at Morden station on the Northern line, marking a notable first for the southernmost section of the Morden branch.
Equity in Motion: A Commitment to Accessibility
The new toilet at Morden station is gender-neutral, fully accessible, and equipped with baby-changing facilities. This installation is a key component of the 'Equity in Motion' plan, a collaborative effort between TfL and the Mayor of London announced in 2024. The plan aims to ensure that all passengers have convenient access to restroom facilities without the need to change trains, with a target of having a toilet within 20 minutes of any point on the network.
Recent Upgrades and Future Plans
In addition to the Morden installation, the project has recently delivered new accessible toilets at several Overground stations, including Clapton, Seven Sisters, and White Hart Lane. Mayor Sadiq Khan has committed £3 million annually to expand toilet availability across TfL's network. Currently, there are toilets at 155 TfL-managed locations, plus an additional 40 facilities within stations not directly managed by TfL.
