Around 80 firefighters are tackling a fire at a hotel in Rainham this afternoon (July 13), with people urged to avoid the area until further notice. Flames broke out at an outbuilding on Berwick Pond Road shortly before 1pm, London Fire Brigade said.
Fire at Berwick Manor Hotel
The fire appears to be at the Berwick Manor Hotel. Crews from across Wennington, Barking and Hornchurch are battling the blaze, with support from Essex County Fire and Rescue service. The fire's cause and the extent of the damage are yet to be determined.
Road closures and traffic impact
Berwick Pond Road is currently shut in both directions between Launder's Lane and Little Gerpins Road whilst the emergency services bring the scene under control. Traffic in the area will be heavily impacted and drivers are encouraged to find alternative routes where possible.
