Three individuals are in police custody following a fatal hit-and-run incident in Kent, where a man in his 80s was struck by a car and carried for almost a mile before being found dead.
Horrific Details of the Collision
The tragic event occurred at approximately 12.10pm on Monday, December 30, 2025. The victim, a pensioner, was hit at a roundabout on the A289 Gads Hill in Gillingham. Shockingly, it is reported that the man became trapped on the vehicle's windscreen.
The driver did not stop. The car continued for nearly a mile before the victim was dumped by the roadside on Grange Road, near a farm. Paramedics attended but the man was pronounced dead at the scene.
Extensive Police Manhunt and Arrests
The suspected vehicle was later located abandoned on Eastcourt Lane, a country road, after its occupants fled on foot. This triggered a significant police response.
Drones and police dogs were deployed to search nearby woodland for the suspects. Following the release of CCTV images of men leaving the area, Kent Police made three arrests.
Those detained are: a 29-year-old man from Chatham, a 28-year-old man from Edgware, London, and a 28-year-old man of no fixed address. All three remain in custody for questioning.
Ongoing Investigation and Public Appeal
Officers from the Kent Police Serious Collision Investigation Unit are leading the inquiry. A car has been recovered from the scene and was seen being loaded onto a recovery truck.
Detective Inspector Zoe Wilczek has issued a renewed appeal for information. She stated: ‘We would like to thank all those who have assisted our investigation so far. While we are not looking for any further suspects at this time, we are urging anyone who witnessed the incident, or saw the vehicle or pedestrian prior to the collision, to contact us.’
Police are particularly keen to hear from:
- Motorists with dashcam footage of the area around the time of the incident.
- Residents or businesses with CCTV that may have captured the vehicle or events.
- Any other witnesses who have not yet come forward.
Anyone with information is asked to contact Kent Police immediately.
