A beloved mother-of-four has been named as the victim of a fatal crash on a major Hertfordshire road. Michelle Strachan, 60, died at the scene of a collision on the A10, leaving her family 'utterly bereft'.
A Fatal Morning Commute
The incident occurred shortly before 9am on Monday, January 5, 2026. It took place in a layby on the A10 between Hertford and Hoddesdon, close to the border with North London. Michelle Strachan, from Letchworth, was on her way to work at the time.
Hertfordshire Police confirmed that three vehicles were involved: a Porsche Cayenne, a Volvo Tipper lorry, and Michelle's own Fiat 500. The latter two vehicles were stationary at the time of the collision. Tragically, Michelle was outside her car when she was struck and died at the scene.
A Family's Heartbreaking Tribute
In an emotional statement, Michelle's loved ones described her as the 'heart' of their family. They painted a picture of a resilient and selfless woman who was the 'glue' of their lives.
"Michelle was the heart of our immediate and wider family," the tribute read. "Despite the many health and personal life challenges she faced, as a wife, mother of four, sister, carer, driving force and as the glue of our lives, she held our family close with hospitality, optimism, a ‘just get on with it’ attitude and, most of all, love and laughter."
The family highlighted her unwavering support for others, stating she "always went out of her way to support those who she could help with selflessness." They called her death 'senseless' and expressed their profound grief, directly addressing their loss: "Michelle, our beautiful mum, we will miss your smile, your hugs, your love and your silliness."
Police Investigation and Appeal
The driver of the Porsche, a man in his sixties, was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving. He has since been released on bail pending further police enquiries.
Hertfordshire Police are continuing to investigate the exact circumstances of the fatal collision. Officers have issued an appeal for witnesses or anyone with information to come forward.
Anyone who can assist is asked to contact police on 101, quoting the reference ISR 110 of 5 January. Information can also be provided anonymously to the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
