A teenage girl has died and another has been seriously injured after a minibus full of teenagers collided with a car on a rural road in North Yorkshire.

The fatal crash occurred at approximately 12:28pm on Monday on Toulston Lane at its junction with Rudgate, near Tadcaster. According to North Yorkshire Police, a white Mercedes Sprinter minibus, travelling towards Sherburn, was involved in a collision with a light-coloured Hyundai i10 car which entered Toulston Lane from Rudgate.

The minibus was carrying nine passengers, all aged between 16 and 18 years old. The teenage girl who was killed was pronounced dead at the scene. Another girl was taken to hospital by ambulance with serious injuries, though these are not currently believed to be life-threatening.

Police investigation and witness appeal

The driver of the Hyundai, a 40-year-old woman, has been arrested in connection with the incident. The male driver of the minibus and the remaining passengers received hospital treatment for minor injuries.

Toulston Lane remains closed to traffic while police investigations continue. Officers are urgently appealing for any witnesses to the collision, or any motorists with relevant dashcam footage, to come forward.

A police spokesman said: ‘We are not in a position to identify the girl at this time. We are continuing to support her family and further updates will be issued when appropriate to do so. We urge everyone to respect the family’s wish to grieve in private.’
