PepsiCo is recalling its Doritos Chilli Heatwave crisps in 140g packs after some were found to contain Tangy Cheese flavoured crisps instead. The Food Standards Agency (FSA) said the mispackaging poses a possible health risk for anyone with a milk allergy or intolerance, as the Tangy Cheese variety contains milk but the Chilli Heatwave does not, and milk is not listed on the label.
Batch details and refunds
The affected packs have the batch code GBC 209 184C and a best before date of December 5, 2026. Customers are urged to return the product to the store where they bought it for a full refund. The FSA has advised PepsiCo to contact allergy support organisations to alert their members.
Health risks from milk
According to Allergy UK, allergic reactions to milk can range from mild to severe. Mild symptoms include itchy mouth, swollen lips, a red rash, vomiting, nausea, and a runny nose. Severe anaphylaxis can involve swelling of the tongue or throat, difficulty swallowing, noisy breathing, and dizziness. Anyone with a milk allergy who has eaten the product should seek medical advice if symptoms occur.
Company statement
In a statement, the FSA said: 'This product contains milk, making it a possible health risk for anyone with an allergy or intolerance to milk or milk constituents. PepsiCo is recalling the product from customers and has been advised to contact the relevant allergy support organisations, which will tell their members about the recall. The company has also issued a point-of-sale notice to its customers.'
