Police have launched an urgent appeal for witnesses after a 34-year-old cyclist was killed in a collision with a car on Old Kent Road in South London.
The incident occurred near the junction with Dunton Road at approximately 6.55am on Friday, November 21. Despite receiving treatment at the scene, the cyclist was pronounced dead.
Driver Arrested After Failing to Stop
A 68-year-old driver was arrested a short time later on suspicion of dangerous driving after he allegedly drove away from the scene without stopping.
The man has since been released on bail pending further police enquiries. Specialist officers are supporting the cyclist's next of kin, who have been informed of the tragic news.
Police Investigation and Public Appeal
Detective Sergeant Rob Groombridge, from the Met’s Serious Collision Investigation Unit, confirmed that an investigation is actively underway to determine the exact circumstances of the crash.
"I’m appealing for anyone who saw the collision, or who may have captured footage of it on their dashcam, to please contact us as soon as possible," DS Groombridge stated.
