A man in his 80s is fighting for his life after being struck by a car on a busy road in Croydon. The collision occurred near Ashburton Park on Long Lane shortly before 12pm on July 17.
Emergency response and injuries
Multiple paramedics, including a team from London's Air Ambulance, treated the elderly pedestrian at the scene before transporting him to a major trauma centre. The Metropolitan Police confirmed his injuries are life-threatening.
Arrest and charges
Officers arrested the driver, a 60-year-old woman, on suspicion of causing serious injury by dangerous driving, perverting the course of justice, and failing to stop. She remains in custody as investigations continue.
Road closure and investigation
Long Lane was closed in both directions between Spring Lane and Longhurst Road throughout the afternoon, causing bus diversions. The road fully reopened around 7.15pm that evening. Police are urging witnesses to come forward.
Earlier incident
