A person has died after being hit by a train in South West London on the morning of May 15. Emergency services were called to Wandsworth Town station at approximately 11.50am following reports of a casualty on the tracks.
The injured individual was pronounced dead at the scene, according to a statement from the British Transport Police (BTP). The age and gender of the deceased have not yet been disclosed. The BTP has confirmed that the death is not being treated as suspicious.
Disruption to Rail Services
As a result of the incident, trains are currently not stopping at Wandsworth Town in either direction. National Rail has warned of major disruption between Clapham Junction and Barnes, which is expected to last until at least 4pm. This is primarily affecting South Western Railway services to and from London Waterloo, as well as services heading toward Twickenham, Shepperton, Windsor & Eton Riverside, Weybridge, Woking, Aldershot, and Reading.
Delays and Cancellations
Passengers have been advised to expect delays of up to 60 minutes, along with revised timetables and possible cancellations. Travelers are urged to check their journeys before setting out and to allow extra time for their trips.
A spokesperson for the British Transport Police said: "Officers were called at around 11.50am today (15 May) to reports of a casualty on the tracks at Wandsworth Town railway station. Officers responded with paramedics, however sadly a person was pronounced dead at the scene. The incident is not being treated as suspicious."
