Heavy rain is set to drench London on Thursday evening (September 10), according to the Met Office, with the capital among scores of areas across southern England facing wet weather. The rain, which will develop over the Atlantic, is expected to move steadily eastwards throughout the day, bringing a gloomy end to the working week for commuters.
Rain to reach London by evening
After soaking western parts of the UK earlier in the day, the rain is forecast to reach London during the evening, bringing spells of persistent rainfall before conditions improve overnight, as reported by The Mirror. The Met Office's weather maps indicate that 100 UK areas will see rain by Thursday afternoon, with eastern regions also facing a soaking.
The heaviest rain looks set to fall at 5pm on Thursday, with cities as far east as Newcastle and Hull experiencing downpours until the early hours of Friday. At 3pm, most western areas will be drenched, according to the maps.

“Cloud and rain will spread erratically eastwards throughout the day,” the Met Office forecast predicts. “Rain turning heavier at times, particularly in the north, with the southeast likely remaining dry until after dark.”
The BBC Weather forecast for Thursday states: “Tomorrow, sunny spells in the east to start, but cloud and some light rain further west. Later on, a band of rain will feed in from the west, reaching the south-east by the end of the day. Breezy.”

Despite the wet start, forecasters predict temperatures could climb as high as 27C next week, offering a warmer and drier spell for Londoners. The BBC forecast for the rest of the week adds: “Friday looks to be a mainly dry and settled day, with sunny spells and areas of cloud. Saturday will see winds strengthen for all. Cloud and rain will spread across the north, while the south stays mainly dry with spells of sunshine. A generally dry day with variable cloud on Sunday, but further rain in the far north-west later in the day.”
The rain is expected to clear overnight Thursday, leaving Friday dry and settled, with the weekend bringing a mix of sunshine and cloud, and stronger winds on Saturday.
