Steve Clarke has committed his long-term future to Scotland by signing a new contract that will keep him as head coach until 2030. The Scottish Football Association announced the deal on Tuesday, rewarding Clarke for his remarkable success in guiding the national team to consecutive European Championships.
Clarke's Tenure and Achievements
Since taking over in 2019, Clarke has transformed Scotland's fortunes. Under his leadership, the team qualified for Euro 2020, their first major tournament in 23 years, and followed that by securing a spot at Euro 2024. His contract extension comes ahead of the 2026 World Cup qualifiers, with Scotland aiming to reach the tournament for the first time since 1998.
Clarke's overall record stands at 26 wins, 13 draws, and 18 losses in 57 matches, a win rate of 45.6%. He has instilled a sense of belief and resilience in the squad, earning praise from players and fans alike.
Reaction from the SFA
SFA chief executive Ian Maxwell expressed delight at the extension, stating: "Steve has done an exceptional job, not just in terms of results but in creating a positive environment and a winning mentality. We are thrilled he will continue to lead the national team."
Clarke's Statement
Clarke said: "I am proud to continue as Scotland head coach. We have built something special, and I am excited about the potential of this squad. There is still work to be done, and I am fully committed to taking Scotland to the next level."
The new contract ensures stability as Scotland prepare for a busy period, including the Nations League and qualifiers for the 2026 World Cup. Clarke's focus now turns to building on the foundations laid over the past five years.
