Shooting at Bite of Seattle festival claims two lives
A shooting at the Bite of Seattle food festival on Sunday evening left two people dead and five others injured, according to the Seattle Fire Department. The incident occurred at Seattle Center, a popular venue near the city's iconic Space Needle, where thousands had gathered for the annual event.
Police responded to the scene and urged the public to avoid the area while emergency crews treated the victims. Harborview Medical Center received four of the injured, including a toddler, a 23-year-old man, and two adult women. One patient remains in critical condition.
Witness describes panic and chaos
Festival-goer Estan Wakonabo recounted the terrifying moments when the shooting began. 'People were hiding, were pushing, people were falling on the ground, baby strollers were falling,' he said. 'Once I heard a ‘pop, pop, pop,’ that’s when I knew it was a shooter.' After helping his girlfriend to safety, Wakonabo returned to the scene and saw several victims on the ground.
Investigation ongoing; suspect details withheld
Police have not released details about a suspect or a possible motive. The Bite of Seattle festival, running since 1982, attracts approximately 350,000 visitors over three days. Authorities continue to investigate the shooting.
