EastEnders' George Knight (Colin Salmon) has been wrestling with guilt over his father Eddie Knight's (Christopher Fairbank) death for months, but next week, a face from his past triggers a crisis. Racist murderer Eddie reappeared earlier this year, dying of lung cancer and released from prison early. He manipulated George's partner Nicola Mitchell (Laura Doddington) into letting him move into No.1 with their family.
Eddie's manipulation and death
Eddie claimed to have changed, but his true colors emerged when he made vile remarks about granddaughter Gina Knight (Francesca Henry). During a confrontation with George, Eddie began choking. George coolly watched his evil adopted father die, ending decades of misery and discrimination. Since then, George has kept quiet about his role in Eddie's final moments and decided not to bury him with his late adoptive mother Gloria Knight (Elizabeth Counsell).
Mysterious acquaintance appears
Next week, a mysterious old acquaintance appears, making George question his decision. Tensions flare between George and Nicola, with his ex-wife Elaine Peacock (Harriet Thorpe) and Phil Mitchell (Steve McFadden) stepping in to mend relations. Struggling with guilt, George visits Gloria's grave, where Eve Panesar-Unwin (Heather Peace) and Jean Slater (Gillian Wright) find him drunk. He and Eve eventually open up to one another.
Nicola's intervention
Nicola, worried about George, enlists her son Harry Mitchell (Elijah Holloway) to get him to Harry's Barn. When George arrives, they sit down to talk. Nicola probes the source of his guilt, leading her to open up about her own past. With Nicola having a killer secret of her own, the couple may reconcile or be driven further apart.
EastEnders airs these scenes from Monday 27th July at 7.30pm on BBC One or stream first from 6am on iPlayer.
