A couple from mid Wales have achieved what many would consider the impossible, securing a life-changing £1 million National Lottery win for a second time.
Defying Astronomical Odds
Richard Davies, 49, and Faye Stevenson-Davies, 43, from Brecon, first landed a seven-figure sum in June 2018 via the EuroMillions Millionaire Maker. Their incredible luck struck again in the Lotto draw on 26 November, when they matched five main numbers and the bonus ball.
Experts at Allwyn, the National Lottery operator, calculated the probability of the same couple winning two such major prizes at more than 24 trillion to one. "We knew the odds of it happening again were outrageous, but we’re proof that if you believe anything is possible," Faye told the BBC.
The Winning Streak Explained
Richard detailed the remarkable sequence of events that led to their latest windfall. "It came to us through a series of four consecutive Lotto draws," he explained. The couple matched two numbers in one draw, which earned them a free Lucky Dip ticket for the next game.
This process repeated through subsequent draws until the fateful ticket for the 26 November draw, purchased with a previous free ticket, delivered the £1 million prize. "That’s what’s happened to us," Richard said, describing the chain of luck.
Grounded Winners with Community Hearts
Despite their renewed fortune, the couple remain deeply committed to their community. Richard, a former hairdresser, volunteers his skills at a homeless shelter in Cardiff and also works as a delivery driver to help friends.
Faye, an ex-nurse, volunteers as a cook at the Cegin Hedyn community kitchen in Carmarthen. She also provides mental health counselling services to local organisations, including the Brecon & District Mind charity, and will be working on Christmas Day.
Reflecting on their first win, Faye said, "We gifted people cars, donated a minibus to the local rugby team and did our best to help friends and family. It was all new and it was amazing to be able to make a difference."
Regarding their plans for this second jackpot, she added, "This time around, who knows? We’re just going to take our time and enjoy the moment."
