Barnet Council receives 70+ planning applications

Barnet Council has received more than 70 planning applications this week, including a proposal to convert a house on Watford Way into an 11-bedroom house in multiple occupation (HMO). The application, submitted under reference 26/3829/FUL, seeks permission to expand the existing dwelling with side and rear extensions, as well as a roof extension, to accommodate up to 11 residents. The plans also include cycle parking, refuse storage, landscaping and amenity space.

HMO conversions and residential extensions dominate the list

Alongside the Watford Way proposal, several other HMO conversions have been submitted. At 283 Cricklewood Lane, London, NW2 2JJ, a change of use from a single-family dwelling to an HMO for up to seven people is proposed, with refuse and cycle storage (Ref. No: 26/3794/FUL). At 43 Eton Avenue, London, N12 0BD, a retrospective change of use from a single dwelling to a five-bedroom HMO for up to five people is sought, including refuse, recycling and cycle storage (Ref. No: 26/3763/RCU). At 89 Burleigh Gardens, London, N14 5AJ, a change of use from a single-family dwelling to a seven-bedroom HMO, including a first-floor rear extension and refuse and cycle storage, is proposed (Ref. No: 26/3759/FUL).

Numerous residential extension applications were also lodged. For example, 3 Devonshire Crescent, London, NW7 1DN, seeks a single-storey rear extension measuring 5 metres deep, following demolition of the existing rear outrigger (Ref. No: 26/3835/PNH). At 48 Alverstone Avenue, Barnet, EN4 8EB, a single-storey rear extension measuring 4.5 metres deep is proposed (Ref. No: 26/3832/PNH). At 7 Southbourne Crescent, London, NW4 2LB, a single-storey rear extension added to an existing extension would create a total depth of 6 metres (Ref. No: 26/3823/PNH).

Commercial and infrastructure proposals

Several applications involve commercial properties. At Units 9-11, Garrick Industrial Centre, Irving Way, London, NW9 6AQ, a change of use from storage and distribution to a commercial bakery is proposed, including 24-hour operations and deliveries (Ref. No: 26/3784/FUL). At Ground Floor, Battle House Mews, 1 East Barnet Road, Barnet, EN4 8RR, changes to shop signage, including removal of internal illumination and installation of external LED fascia lighting, are proposed (Ref. No: 26/3813/ADV). A separate application at the same address seeks a front canopy for a fruit and vegetables area, together with an awning and shutter box (Ref. No: 26/3812/FUL).

Other notable applications include the demolition of an existing dwelling at Jolidee, Hendon Wood Lane, London, NW7 4HS, and construction of a new two-storey house with rooms in the roofspace, landscaping and altered vehicle access (Ref. No: 26/3764/FUL). At Land to the rear of 49 The Ridgeway, London, NW11 8QP, demolition of the existing garage and construction of a single-family dwelling at ground and lower-ground levels, with amenity space, storage and one parking space, is proposed (Ref. No: 26/3498/FUL).

Public Notice Portal and community engagement

Barnet Council has published these applications through the Public Notice Portal, a service owned and operated by the News Media Association (NMA). The portal carries statutory public notices published in local newspapers and is described as the fastest and most effective way of finding out what is happening in neighbourhoods. NMA members include nearly 900 local and regional news titles which reach 40 million people across the UK each month. The portal was created by local news publishers and is supported by the Google News Initiative.

Residents can search the Public Notice Portal at www.publicnoticeportal.uk to find all latest planning applications, alcohol licensing applications and planned road closures near them. The portal also allows users to find, save and share public notices that affect them. Barnet Council will consider each application on its merits, and decisions will be published in due course.
