A young man is in a critical, life-threatening condition following a shooting in Sheffield on Christmas Day, with four suspects now in police custody.
Christmas Night Attack in Darnall
Emergency services were called to Wilfred Drive in the Darnall area of Sheffield at 11.27pm on 25 December 2025 after receiving reports that a man had been shot. Upon arrival, they found a 20-year-old victim with a serious gunshot wound to the chest.
The man was rushed to hospital, where he remains in a critical condition. South Yorkshire Police confirmed that four men were swiftly arrested in connection with the incident on suspicion of attempted murder.
Suspects in Custody as Police Appeal for Evidence
The arrested suspects, aged 20, 22, 28, and 29, are currently being held in police custody for questioning. Officers have stressed the urgency of their investigation and are appealing to the public for assistance.
Police are particularly keen to obtain any relevant CCTV, doorbell camera, or dashcam footage from the area around the time of the incident. They have urged anyone with information, no matter how insignificant it may seem, to contact them immediately.
Police Condemn "Abhorrent" Gun Crime
Chief Inspector Andy Knowles of South Yorkshire Police issued a strong statement condemning the violence. He described the event as an "abhorrent incident that has left a man fighting for his life."
"Gun crime poses a great threat to the safety and well-being of our community, putting innocent people at risk," Chief Inspector Knowles said. "It will not be tolerated under any circumstances."
He emphasised the force's commitment to taking "firm, decisive action" against anyone involved in violence or illegal firearms but added that community support was vital. Police officers continue to patrol the Darnall area to reassure locals and address any concerns.
The investigation remains active, and authorities are determined to bring those responsible to justice.
