London families seeking budget-friendly Halloween activities in 2026 have a wide range of options, from a free Halloween takeover at Waterloo station to a charity trail in Crouch End. Many events cost under £8, with some completely free, ensuring that spooky season doesn't break the bank.
Hackney Children's Film Fest and Crouch End Halloween Trail
Hackney's Rio Cinema is hosting its first ever Children's Film Festival, with the Halloween special being The Little Vampire, a film about the friendship between a 9-year-old boy and a mysterious figure named Rudolph. Standard tickets are £5, or £3 for anyone with a Hackney Library Card. The film is the final movie of the week-long event, which also includes crafts and a costume parade on stage. Other films in the line-up include Penguin Highway and The Lure of Ponies.
In Crouch End, the Halloween Trail returns on October 28, kicking off at midday. This charity initiative raises money for The Toy Project and features spooky clues, treats, fancy dress, and hidden ghosts. Organisers said this year's event will be one to remember, building on last year's success when more than 700 children took part. Starting at the David Astburys estate agents, youngsters collect a trail map and hints before discovering participating stops. Three ghosts are hidden along the route, and a lucky winner who spots all three wins a big prize. There's also a fancy dress competition for witches, ghosts, vampires, pumpkins, monsters, and superheroes, with a prize for the best costume. Tickets cost £3.
Free Halloween Takeover at The Sidings and Kensington Events
The Sidings in Waterloo station is hosting a free Halloween takeover on October 31 from 11am to 4pm. This family event includes face painting, special effects makeup, roaming characters, crafts, and live entertainment from One School of Performing Arts Academy (OSPA).
High Street Kensington is hosting a kid-friendly trail from October 24-31, with themed workshops, seasonal treats, and spook-tacular surprises. Families can pick up an area guide from High Street Kensington station or participating businesses. On Halloween itself, Holland Park will transform into the Playful Park of the Peculair from 4.30pm to 7.30pm. This free walk-through adventure features live performances, illuminated installations, and unexpected encounters. Tickets are currently sold out, but more will be released at 9am on October 26.
Hyde Park Activities and London Pumpkin Patch
Hyde Park is hosting free creepy crawly and Halloween-themed activities from October 27-29, between 11am and 3.30pm. Children can investigate 'feely boxes' in the Witches' Den, explore a nature trail, and learn about bats with the Royal Parks. Storytime sessions will take place throughout the three-day event, with attendees encouraged to dress up. All activities are at the Hyde Park Learning Centre, and interest must be registered beforehand.
For a traditional pumpkin patch experience without leaving London, Parsons Green has set up a field of orange pumpkins from October 24 to November 1, open from 10am to 7pm. The green will have an autumn-themed makeover with displays, roaming characters, and photo stops. A new play zone features Jack-o-Lantern toss, giant Connect Four, and carnival games. Tickets start at £7.50.
