Former Coronation Street star Ryan Thomas mistakenly confused outgoing Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer with cannibal serial killer Jeffrey Dahmer during a podcast with his brothers Adam and Scott. The slip-up occurred while the trio discussed horror movies and true crime on their show 'At Home With The Thomas Bros'.
How the confusion unfolded
Scott Thomas said he doesn't like horror movies, and Ryan chimed in that he enjoys true crime, mentioning 'Keir Starmer or whatever it is'. Adam looked baffled as Scott laughed, 'That's the prime minister'. Ryan, who appeared on Love Island, seemed unaware of recent political events. The production team later corrected them, pointing out the name 'Jeffrey Dahmer'.
The serial killer reference
Jeffrey Dahmer, also known as the Milwaukee Cannibal, killed and dismembered 17 men and boys between 1978 and 1991. He was sentenced to 16 life terms but was beaten to death in 1994. Adam Thomas admitted he turned off a film about Dahmer after 10 minutes but later resumed watching.
Ryan's lack of political awareness
Scott reminded Ryan that he had actually met Sir Keir Starmer, to which Ryan confessed, 'I didn't even know he was the prime minister at the time'. This lack of recognition proved prophetic as Starmer faced the lectern outside No. 10 earlier this week, stepping down as Labour leader and confirming he will remain an MP. His successor is expected to be Andy Burnham, the Mayor of Manchester.
