A fast-moving car struck pedestrians in the historic northern Italian city of Modena on Saturday, followed by a stabbing incident that left several people injured. The incident occurred in the Largo Porta Bologna area when the vehicle mowed down people before crashing into a department store window.
Casualties and Injuries
At least seven people were injured, two of them seriously. Mayor Massimo Mezzetti confirmed that one woman was crushed against the shop window and may lose both of her legs. Fortunately, no fatalities were reported.
Suspect's Actions
The driver, who was reportedly injured in the crash, fled on foot. According to local reports from Il Tirreno, he then stabbed one person who tried to stop him before being arrested by authorities. The suspect is now being questioned at the police station.
Footage from the scene shows a badly damaged silver Citroen with its front smashed next to the pavement, surrounded by debris. The mayor stated, "Fortunately, there were no deaths, but seven people were injured, two of them seriously. One woman will likely have to have both legs amputated: she was crushed against the shop window."
Authorities are investigating the incident, and further details are expected to emerge as the investigation continues.
