The inaugural conference for Jeremy Corbyn's new left-wing political venture, Your Party, collapsed into disarray on its first day after co-founder Zarah Sultana announced a dramatic boycott of the event.
Public Spat Erupts into Open Conflict
The chaos unfolded on November 29, 2025, at the ACC in Liverpool. The situation escalated when word spread among attendees that Sultana would be appearing outside the conference centre to give a statement at around 1pm.
In the bitter cold, wearing a long black jacket, Sultana addressed her supporters. 'It is something that is deeply concerning, especially when we are calling for a democratic party,' she stated. 'We are not here to expel people. We are not here to build a culture of witch hunts, where people’s social media are stalked and people are putting resources into expelling people.'
Her protest was triggered by the blocking of members from a different socialist movement from attending the conference.
A History of Internal Tensions
This public rift is the culmination of a series of disputes that have plagued the unnamed party since its creation. Sultana was the first to announce the party's arrival in July with a post on X, a move widely believed to have caught Jeremy Corbyn off guard.
The internal conflicts have been multifaceted. Sultana has previously clashed with fellow MPs over the party's leadership structure and her unilateral launch of a paid membership scheme. In a particularly sharp exchange in September, she accused Corbyn and the Independent Alliance MPs of being a 'sexist boys’ club'.
The tensions were further evidenced just days before the Liverpool conference, when two members of the parliamentary group – Iqbal Mohamed and Adnan Hussain – stepped away from Your Party.
Conference Descends into Further Disarray
Inside the conference, the atmosphere was equally turbulent. The debate over the party's official name, with options including Your Party, Our Party, For the Many, and Popular Alliance, descended into angry recriminations. One attendee accused an 'unelected clique' of silencing certain name suggestions.
Speakers who criticised the party's top figures received loud support from the sizable crowd in the main hall. Meanwhile, journalists were blocked from entering during debates, and the conference livestream reportedly stopped functioning regularly during some contributors' speeches.
The first day of what was meant to be a landmark event for the new political movement was ultimately defined by internal conflict and very public chaos.
