Vickrum Digwa, convicted of murdering 18-year-old finance student Henry Nowak, told his mother Kiran Kaur to take away the knife used in the fatal stabbing. The exchange, captured on Digwa's phone, shows him speaking in Punjabi and instructing her to remove the weapon from the scene of the attack on December 3, 2025.
Mother's Role in Concealing Evidence
Kaur, 53, was sentenced to three years in prison for assisting an offender after she took the knife back to the family home near the crime scene. Judge William Mousley KC stated that by the time Digwa told her to take the weapon, she knew or believed he had stabbed Henry. The judge remarked that a responsible parent would have challenged their son and encouraged him to do the right thing. Instead, Kaur placed the knife with a collection of ceremonial and other weapons in her son's bedroom, helping to conceal its use and enabling Digwa to avoid being caught.
Digwa's False Claims and Sentencing
Digwa, 23, falsely claimed that Nowak had racially abused him. He was sentenced to life imprisonment with a minimum term of 21 years on June 1 for the murder. The judge noted that Kaur's actions before and after taking the dagger added to Digwa's pretence of innocence and being the victim. Her role contributed to the degradation of Henry being arrested while he was dying.
Family's Demand for Justice
Following the sentencing, Henry Nowak's family expressed disappointment and vowed to continue their campaign for justice. In a statement, they said: 'Our focus is on making sure the ongoing investigations leave no stone unturned as we fight for the full truth about what happened last December, and we continue to urge the Government to deliver the changes our wonderful son deserves.' The case sparked public anger after police body-worn video showed Nowak being handcuffed moments before losing consciousness and dying.
