Four men in their 20s have died after the car they were traveling in crashed into a lamppost in Liverpool early this morning. The incident occurred on Liverpool Road in Huyton shortly before 2am, leaving the road strewn with debris and cordoned off by police.
Victims and response
Two men aged 23, another aged 24, and a fourth aged 26 were all pronounced dead at the scene. A fifth passenger, a 27-year-old man, was taken to hospital in a stable condition. Police stated that a black Seat Cupra heading from Liverpool towards Knowsley came off the road after colliding with a lamppost.
Superintendent Paul Holden said: 'First and foremost our thoughts are with the family of the four men who sadly lost their lives following the collision in the early hours of this morning. Their families have been informed and are being supported by our specially trained family liaison officers. This is a truly devastating moment for their families and loved ones, and it is now our priority to get answers for them on how the collision occurred.'
Road closures and investigation
Road closures remain in place on Liverpool Road and East Prescot Road, closed in both directions from its junction with Finch Lane to its junction with Princess Drive. Police said they are likely to remain in place all weekend. A temporary flight restriction zone, specifically affecting drones, is also in place above Liverpool Road in Huyton.
Police are appealing for witnesses or anyone with doorbell footage of the black Seat Cupra or the incident to come forward. Superintendent Holden added: 'We know this happened very early this morning, but if anyone saw what happened or were driving through the area just before the incident occurred then please get in touch.
