Americans are mourning the White House after President Donald Trump's extensive renovations, which include a controversial ballroom and a UFC fighting ring, have sparked widespread outrage. New aerial photos reveal massive construction at the People's House, with cranes installing lighting and arches for a UFC ring to celebrate Trump's birthday and the nation's 250th Independence Day. The former East Wing has been largely demolished to make way for Trump's cherished ballroom.
Public Outrage
Many Americans have expressed their displeasure on social media. One user described the changes as 'a busted a** trash palace,' while another called the UFC fights on the White House lawn 'a desecration of the White House, America, our history, and the dignity of the office of the presidency.' Some commentators noted that previous presidents like Barack Obama and Joe Biden might have faced impeachment for similar actions.
Senator Adam Schiff criticized Trump, saying: 'Trump is building a golden ballroom and arranging a UFC fight on the White House grounds for his birthday party while you're struggling to pay your bills. Could he be more out of touch?'
White House Defense
The White House has defended the projects. Spokesman Davis Ingle told Newsweek: 'Dumocrats are opposed to anything that celebrates the greatness of our country because they are America Last losers. This will be one of the greatest and most historic sports events in history, and President Trump hosting it at the White House is a testament to his vision to celebrate America's monumental 250th anniversary.'
Independence Arch
Trump also plans to build a 250-foot arch, one foot for each year of the United States' existence, modeled after the Arc de Triomphe in Paris. Dubbed the 'Arc de Trump,' renderings shared on Truth Social show it would be about half the size of the Washington Monument. White House spokesman Davis Ingle told CNN: 'The Arch is going to be one of the most iconic landmarks not only in Washington, D.C., but throughout the world.'
Additionally, there are proposals to transform the National Mall into a race track, passing the Supreme Court and the Lincoln Memorial.
