The parents of a 13-year-old girl have spoken of their devastation following her death last month, as police continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the tragedy.

A Family's Heartbreaking Tribute

In a statement released on Christmas Eve, the family of Madison Richardson, affectionately known as Maddie, described their daughter as a 'one of a kind' girl with a heart of gold. They said she was a bubbly, loving character who lit up every room she entered and had a laugh that everyone would remember.

"We are heartbroken and devastated by the sudden loss of our daughter," her parents said. "Maddie had a real passion for art, she was so talented and we are so unbelievably proud of her creativity." They added that she was fiercely protective of her siblings and that her absence had left a void in their lives.

The family also highlighted the work of the mental health charity YoungMinds.

Police Investigation and School's Memories

Greater Manchester Police confirmed that emergency services were called to an address in Manchester at 5.30pm on 24 November following a report of a concern for welfare. Madison was taken to hospital where she later died.

A 14-year-old boy was arrested on suspicion of harassment in connection with the case. He has since been released on bail. Detective Inspector Andrew Day stated that inquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances, including whether the actions of anyone else contributed to Madison's death.

James Docherty, executive headteacher at Teenage Kicks school in Failsworth, paid his own tribute, calling Maddie a "wonderfully creative young girl" with a remarkable talent for art and face-painting. "Maddie didn’t just make beautiful art – she made people feel special," he said, noting her kindness touched both pupils and staff.

Ongoing Inquiry and Appeal for Information

DI Day described the situation as 'utterly heartbreaking' for Madison's family and friends, particularly as they face their first Christmas without her. He emphasised that the investigation is active and focused on securing answers for her grieving family.

Police have urged anyone with information that could assist the investigation to come forward and contact them.
