What to Expect at AIRE Ancient Baths London
Located in an 18th-century Georgian townhouse behind the Strand, AIRE Ancient Baths opened in 2022 as part of a wellness empire with locations in Copenhagen, NYC, and Barcelona. The building once housed JM Barrie, author of Peter Pan, and a first-edition copy of the book is on display at check-in.
The spa is designed as a subterranean Roman grotto, with arched chambers of exposed brick, giant amphoras, and flickering lamplight. Phones are banned, and the only time marker is a gong rung on the hour. The thermal circuit includes a Tepidarium (36°C), hot pool (46°C), cold pools (14-16°C), a jet pool, a salt pool, and a steam room.
The Thermal Circuit and Signature Treatments
Our reviewer's favorite was the Flotarium, a salt pool so buoyant that lying back and bobbing is effortless, with vaulted wooden ceilings and underwater music. The steam room offers a sensory retreat, with dense fog obscuring other guests and a cold plunge pool for contrast.
Treatments are extra, with the Hydrating Honey ritual—a 45-minute massage with jojoba oil and honey hair mask—providing a sweet-smelling finish. The Signature Wine Experience, at £552 per person, includes a 45-minute soak in a wooden wine tub followed by cheese and wine tasting.

Booking is essential, ideally at least a week in advance, especially for weekends. The 'Ancient Baths' experience (without extras) starts at £115 per person, with experiences from £140. The spa has disabled access with a lift and pool hoist, and deaf visitors receive written information on tablets.
One drawback is the small communal changing area, with only one private dressing room, which gets crowded. However, amenities are plentiful, including GHD hairdryers, straighteners, and a swimsuit spin dryer.
