Jack P Shepherd admits struggle announcing baby's sex

Jack P Shepherd has revealed he struggled with a crucial task during the birth of his fourth child, daughter Constance Ita Shepherd, with wife Hanni Treweek. The Coronation Street star admitted on the podcast On the Sofa that he couldn't see whether the baby was a boy or a girl when asked to announce the sex.

Confusion at Birth

Speaking to former co-star Colson Smith, Jack explained that he and Hanni had kept the baby's sex a surprise throughout the pregnancy. Despite old wives' tales suggesting a smaller bump means a boy, the theory proved wrong. When the baby was placed on Hanni's chest for skin-to-skin contact, midwives referred to the newborn as 'he'. It wasn't until Hanni questioned the sex that Jack took another look and confirmed they had a girl.

Colson joked that Jack should 'add it to his CV', while someone off-camera dubbed him 'Jacky the Doula'. The On the Sofa Show's Instagram page shared a clip with the caption: 'Added to the CV. Jacky P the Doula.'

Home Birth Announcement

Jack and Hanni announced Constance's arrival earlier this week, describing a peaceful home birth. Hanni wrote on Instagram: 'Our beautiful baby girl has arrived, born peacefully at home, surrounded by love.' The couple also shared how they chose the name Constance, which was the only one they both agreed on after searching for French and Italian names.

Jack revealed they had a boy's name ready but refused to disclose it, joking: 'I don't want to reveal my name, and someone steals it. Even though I am fully aware there is still one other in the world.'

Family and Career

The couple announced the pregnancy in February, months after marrying in July 2025. Constance is Jack's fourth child; he has three from previous relationships. Jack has played David Platt on Coronation Street for 26 years and will make his pantomime debut as the Prince in Llandudno from December 12 to January 2.
