Fans of the iconic Spice Girls have been sent into a frenzy this week after a seemingly innocent family video from Victoria Beckham sparked major reunion speculation.
A Family Performance Goes Viral
The pop star turned fashion designer, 51, shared a video on social media that sent the internet into overdrive. In the clip, Victoria Beckham is seen sitting on a couch in her living room, singing along to the group's 1998 hit, 'Viva Forever'.
Her youngest son, Cruz Beckham, 20, who is an aspiring musician, accompanied her on guitar and vocals. The video took an unexpected turn when it was revealed that her husband, David Beckham, 50, was the one filming. The former footballer then jumped into the frame, performing Melanie C's ad-libs during the final chorus.
'Sorry I ruined it,' David humorously commented on the post. Victoria, meanwhile, expressed her pride in her son's musical talent, writing his name alongside a series of love hearts.
Bandmates Fuel the Reunion Fire
While the family moment was charming in itself, it was the reactions from Victoria's former bandmates that truly set alarm bells ringing.
Melanie C (Sporty Spice) was quick to comment, writing: 'Love this. Getting a head start on rehearsals,' alongside a wink emoji.
Mel B (Scary Spice) then escalated the excitement, declaring: 'It’s happening!!! And remember it was all my idea ?.'
These comments sent fans into a meltdown across social media. Supporters flooded the post with pleas for a reunion, with one writing, 'Do it girls! We have been waiting for this for a long time,' and another demanding, 'Just give us the tour dates already, queeenz.'
A History of Hiatus and Hope
Formed in 1994, the Spice Girls became a global phenomenon. Their debut album, 'Spice', released in 1996, sold more than 23 million copies worldwide, cementing its place as the best-selling album by a female group in history.
The group went on hiatus in 2000. While they reunited for the Spice World tour in 2019, Victoria was notably absent and has previously shut down speculation about rejoining.
However, there have been recent signs of a thaw. In April last year, the group came together for an impromptu performance of 'Stop' during Victoria's 50th birthday celebrations.
Just last month, Victoria hinted she wasn't completely opposed to the idea during a radio appearance. 'It’s tempting. It would be tempting, but could I take on a world tour? No, I can’t. I have a job. But the idea…oh my God,' she said, though she modestly added, 'I mean I don’t know if I could even still sing. I mean I was never that great!'
The timing of the teaser is significant, as next year marks the 30th anniversary of the group's debut single, 'Wannabe'.
Earlier this week, Mel C appeared on Good Morning America and expressed optimism. 'I remain optimistic. It’s our thirtieth anniversary next year,' she said while crossing her fingers. 'We’re talking and we’re seeing what opportunities are out there.'
She did, however, note a potential hurdle, stating, 'The thing that stops us is we feel so precious about it, we want to make sure it’s the right thing and agree on the right thing.'
While this week's video may be a playful nod to the long-standing claims that Victoria has been the one blocking a full reunion, it has undoubtedly reignited hope for millions of fans awaiting the return of Girl Power.
