A woman has shared a heartwarming story of a stranger's kindness after she lost out on a quilt she desperately wanted in a raffle, only for the winner to give it to her.
The incident occurred at a fundraiser for Nepal, aimed at raising money to rebuild a school destroyed by the 2015 earthquake. The quilt, hand-sewn in vibrant purple and green by a local quilting expert in a pattern called “the drunkard’s path,” caught the woman's eye immediately.
Raffle Hopes Dashed
She bought 10 tickets, hoping to win the quilt. Her husband, Sam, also bought 10 tickets but declared that if he won, he would auction the quilt to raise more money for the cause. True to his word, when Sam won, he immediately began auctioning it.
The woman said: “I sat there thinking to myself, ‘Put a smile on your face. We are here to raise money for people who have lost everything. Get a grip!’ But I was secretly devastated to have missed out on the quilt.”
Unexpected Generosity
During the auction, a woman bid furiously and secured the final bid. Sam handed her the quilt. Then, to the original woman's surprise, the winner walked over and said: “I’m giving your wife this quilt.”
She later told friends that she saw the look on the woman's face when Sam began the auction and wanted her to have it. The recipient was overwhelmed and tried not to cry.
Determined to thank her, she asked for the stranger's address and sent a heartfelt thank you card. The quilt now sits proudly on her bed, serving as a daily reminder of the goodness in the world.
