The music world is in mourning following the announcement that Jimmy Cliff, the pioneering reggae singer and actor who brought the genre to a global audience, has died at the age of 81.

His wife, Latifa Chambers, confirmed the tragic news in a heartfelt statement posted on Instagram on Monday 24th November 2025.

A Legendary Career Spanning Decades

Jimmy Cliff's remarkable career stretched across six decades, cementing his status as a global music icon. He was best known for his timeless anthems, including 'You Can Get It If You Really Want', 'The Harder They Come', and the deeply soulful 'Many Rivers To Cross'.

His influence was recognised with numerous prestigious awards. Cliff was a two-time Grammy-winning artist and was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2010. In 2003, the Jamaican government honoured him with the Jamaican Order of Merit, the nation's highest honour for achievements in the arts and sciences.

Family's Heartfelt Tribute

In her emotional social media post, his wife Latifa revealed that Cliff passed away 'due to a seizure followed by pneumonia'. She expressed her profound sadness, writing, 'I am thankful for his family, friends, fellow artists and coworkers who have shared his journey with him.'

Addressing his legions of fans worldwide, she added, 'To all his fans around the world, please know that your support was his strength throughout his whole career. He really appreciated each and every fan for their love.'

The statement, also signed by two of his children, Latifa and Lilty, concluded with a powerful and poignant farewell: 'We see you Legend'.
