In a surprising revelation on the popular Table Manners podcast, Hollywood superstar Margot Robbie has confessed to being unceremoniously ejected from the iconic Infernos nightclub and finding herself banned from most other clubs in Clapham during her residence in the London area.
A Legendary Venue's Unexpected Rejection
The 35-year-old Australian actress, best known for her roles in Barbie and The Wolf of Wall Street, shared the amusing anecdote during her conversation with host Jessie Ware and her mother Lennie. Robbie explained how her former roommates had built up Infernos as a legendary establishment where patrons could do almost anything without fear of expulsion.
"They would tell me about the infamous Infernos," Robbie recalled. "This place is so fun, you can't get kicked out of there, you can do anything in Infernos, and you can't get kicked out." Intrigued by this description, she described it as sounding like "paradise" and made immediate plans to visit with her friends.
Swift Ejection and Security Confrontation
The reality proved dramatically different from the glowing recommendations. "Within about 15 minutes, we got kicked out," Robbie revealed, describing the humiliating experience of being physically removed by security personnel. During the ejection, she protested vocally, screaming at the bouncers: "But this is Infernos, you can't get kicked out of Infernos!"
The security staff offered a curt explanation for their actions, telling the actress: "Look, we allow most things, but when your friend does... then we kick you out." Robbie conceded that this justification was reasonable, admitting she responded with: "Okay, fair enough."
A Pattern of Nightlife Exclusion
When pressed by Jessie Ware about how many establishments had ejected her, Robbie disclosed that this was not an isolated incident. "Most of the clubs in Clapham I'd say have kicked us out," she admitted. "For a while we were banned at a number of places."
This pattern of exclusion from Clapham's nightlife became so consistent that it influenced her living arrangements. After returning to America temporarily, Robbie and her friends decided to move in together when they found a property that seemed destined for them.
"The guys were like, 'oh, it's a sign, this place is down the road from Infernos'," she explained. "So we literally signed our lease just because it was down the road from Infernos."
Clapham Memories and Local Connections
Robbie, who moved to Clapham in 2016, also shared charming anecdotes about her attempts to convince local shopkeepers of her celebrity status. She became friendly with the owners of her neighbourhood off-licence, Johnny and Neil, who remained sceptical about her claims to fame.
When she invited them to a film premiere, they responded with disbelief, questioning: "You?" Robbie attempted to prove her identity by showing them an invitation featuring her face next to Will Smith, but they remained unconvinced, insisting the image wasn't her.
"They wouldn't believe me," she said, "and I said, 'just come to the premiere and see for yourself'." Though they declined the invitation, they eventually accepted her celebrity status, and Robbie occasionally returns to visit them when she's in London.
Career Context and Current Projects
The actress is currently promoting her role as Catherine Earnshaw in Emerald Fennell's adaptation of Emily Brontë's Wuthering Heights. Her illustrious career includes her Oscar-nominated performance in Barbie (2023), her breakthrough role in The Wolf of Wall Street (2014), and her portrayal of Harley Quinn across three DC Extended Universe films.
Robbie's candid revelations on the Table Manners podcast provide a humorous glimpse into her life before global stardom, when she experienced the same nightlife challenges as many young London residents, despite her growing fame in the film industry.
